Stipules - Leaflike structures that grow where the leaf is attached to the stem.
Thorn - A sharp-pointed structure formed by a modified branch.
Cuspidate - Tipped with a sharp firm point.
Pistil - The seed-producing or female organ, consisting of ovary, style, and stigma; usually located in the center of the flower.
Bipinnate - Twice-pinnate.
Solitary - Borne singly; alone.
Rhizobium - Soil-borne bacteria which form nitrogen-rich root nodules.
Areole - A spot in the form of a pit or a raised area on the surface of a cactus through which spines or other structures grow.
Wing - A thin extension of a plant part, as of a branch or dry fruit.
Caryopsis - A dry, one-seeded fruit (achene) with ovary wall united to the seed coat, characteristic of grasses.
Falcate - Sickle-shaped.
Oblong - Much longer than broad with sides nearly parallel.
Inflorescence - A group of flowers and associated plant parts.
Petal - Unit of the corolla.
Endangered - An animal or plant species in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range.
